Blog Posting - Music Marketing #1

     Hey all! It's great to be posting again. Recently in AICE Media AS we have been working on a project, the music marketing project, which we were instructed to fully build a marketing campaign for a music artist or group that we completely made up based on an assigned genre. The project is a group project, and my group was given the genre Pop. 

    The project has many parts, but it started with research. We researched two production companies, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, and all five of us focused on researching a single pop singer who is part of one of the companies. The three artists we researched for Universal Music Group were Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Justin Bieber. For Warner Music Group, we researched Melanie Martinez and Charli XCX, which is who I researched. 

    We focused on their branding, marketing, and distribution techniques and took note of commonalities in marketing the genre and the general marketing techniques used in pop to apply to our own project. The most important thing we learned was that all of the pop artists researched were very active on social media platforms (mostly Instagram or TikTok), which is why we plan to use social media as a way to market our artist in our actual project. For distribution, we found most pop artists used online platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, so we also are planning to use that to distribute our artists music. Additionally, the researched pop artists had their own websites to sell merch and vinyl, which we also want to do for our artist. Overall, we plan on taking the techniques we found in our research and apply them to our project.

    Afterward, our teacher gave us four song choices, all pop, and we selected one (Awkward by San Cisco), which we had to build an artist/brand around, make a music video to, and market from the artist and brand we create. The project is quite large and has many parts (the research chart, storyboard, a music video, a presentation on the brand and marketing, and a blog post video of behind the scenes), so my group started off with coming up with a timeline for ourselves with deadlines to stay organized. Our timeline is the plan we will be trying to follow for our project.

    Currently, we are trying to follow this timeline as we work through our project. Our storyboard for our music video has been submitted, and we started on the PowerPoint presentation. We have come up with some background information on our artist, and decided on making our artist a single performer who is male with a very retro vibe (alias name: Disco Landing). As we keep working, I will keep you guys updated on our project and our process as we develop our artist.
