Hey all readers! Welcome back to my blog. February has just hit, meaning it's time for my AICE Media class to start our Cambridge Portfolio Projects. Although all the work we have done this year has been preparing me with techniques and skills that I need for my project, I'm honestly really nervous. This is my first long-term project, and I'm very worried about the time management. In the end, I know it will all work out.
So, from here on out, my blog postings will be about my steps in working on this project and in creating my film opening and CCR. I plan on posting on my blog about all parts of my process in developing my project as I continue to work. Currently, I'm in the brainstorming stage of this process specifically for my film opening. In class, we just learned and took notes on film openings and watched several examples to get us started on thinking. We learned about different approaches we could take and different ways we could make our own opening. I have posted my notes below:
.
After learning all of these approaches, I started to truly brainstorm ideas for my project. I brainstormed some ideas for genre—horror, drama, or maybe mystery—and picked some approaches I may want to use. I was thinking I could either focus on developing conflict, characters, setting, or maybe even all three.
By approaching my opening through creating conflict, I think I could make my opening more interesting, and by not showing a resolution to that conflict, it could make it clear that I understand that film openings are just the beginning of film and that there shouldn't be a real ending (a convention I need to demonstrate in the project). By developing character, I would really need to focus on mise-en-scène, dialogue, and interactions, which may be hard to do without proper sound equipment, so I may want to steer clear of that. In establishing a setting, at the moment the most appealing approach, I would need to focus on detail and set design, which I find very interesting. Ultimately, I have a lot of choices to make in deciding how to go about this project.
Overall, I feel prepared to start my project and am excited to start this journey.
